Sales Coaching

Sales coaching can be a great way to motivate employees who work in sales to increase production and surpass their limits.  When some people think of sales coaching, they think of someone training others to sell effectively; but this is not exactly the case.  Although sales coaches do train others to learn and utilize the best techniques for selling, they are, more importantly, there to inspire, push, and reinforce habits and behaviors that bring out the best in salespeople.

Trainers train, coaches inspire.  In the case of a sports team, the trainer would be the one who teaches the different techniques and rules of the sport.  The coach of the team, however, would be the one to help push each member of the team to set goals and then work hard to achieve them.  The same is true for sales coaching.  First, the coach will ask the salesperson to list his or her goals.  If working with a team of salespeople, the coach may start by giving an overall view of what the salespeople should expect from sales coaching, and what the coach will do to help everyone achieve their goals.  The sales coach will then work with each salesperson individually to help him or her set up a unique plan to help develop and capitalize on his or her particular talents.   The sales coach will work to inspire each salesperson to want to do better  – and to fully believe that they can.

Sales coaching is an exciting and rewarding field.  Many salespeople, who feel that they have gone as far as they can go in sales and are looking for more challenges, choose to go into sales coaching – and find it a very rewarding experience.
